Suzuki Mehran A Problematic Car

Suzuki Mehran has remained one of the nostalgic cars of every single Pakistani, but it has many faults. The car is the 2nd generation Suzuki Alto was introduced in the 1980s. It was a replacement for 1st generation Suzuki Alto known as Suzuki FX in Pakistan. After Mehran, 3rd generation Alto also came into the market and in 2019 latest 4th generation Alto was finally launched in the replacement of the Mehran car manufacturing plant. Suzuki Mehran is an economical car in South Asia and it is known as the Boss of all cars. The car edition has been produced for more than 39 years and it became unpopular in the past five years due to its many obsolete features and non-safe structure.

In Pakistan, Suzuki Motors Corporation JAPAN launched the Suzuki Mehran Car (also known as Suzuki Cervo Mode, Suzuki Alto 4th Generation, Suzuki Fronte, Maruti 800, and Maruti A-Star) in the following main variants:

  • VX Euro II
  • VX Euro II CNG
  • VXR Euro II (Company fitted Air Conditioner)
  • VXR Euro II CNG (Company fitted Air Conditioner)

The car does not have any safety features such as airbags are not installed. Even there is no option to install airbags. However, the car's metal body is also weak and has many design faults which makes it unsafe for use.

The car is powered by an 800cc engine which has vibration issues. The engine is uneconomical and thus has poor oil rubber sealings. Every day you must check the car engine for any mechanical issues before a long ride. The generator which charges the battery is uncovered and has a risk of being damaged. The fuel in the engine does not get burnt completely.

The colour quality of the car is cheap and that is why it has a short lifetime. There are many concerns over the paint because the metal body of the car is not pre-treated with a rust-free coat for its protection from corrosion.

The VXR edition of Mehran has an AC. The performance of the air conditioner is also worse, and it operates normally only if you are driving it on a highway. The car cannot resist the heat from its own engine because there is no kind of insulation between the engine and the rooming compartment. People often complain about Mehran gear oil leakage and find solutions on the internet to resolve the issue.

It can be run on both fuels, namely, Gasoline/Petrol and CNG(Compressed Natural Gas). But for this, a device needs to be installed to change the choice of fuel usage. The device gets damaged or does not work most of the time and you are required to call for help from a mechanic.

Wheel alignment is unreliable and its losses are set just after the use of 2 months. Durability is a questionnaire in this regard. The wheels are small and tubeless. The rear tyres are attached to the metal rods that get bent over time and the car gets lower on the ground.

The comfort level of the car is 3rd class and the material used for seat covers is also poor. The shock absorbers of the car are bad and sometimes found meaningless.

The car does not provide any kind of great feel and entertainment. As it only features a radio and nothing else.

The built quality of the dashboard and other plastic stuff is not premium, but it would be okay to say as average. While handles of the doors are scary and are made of poor plastic. The roof handles are placed on the head sides and these could be dangerous if a car passes on the bumpy road, then they may cause a head injury. So, we must care about these little things.

There is not enough space in the car. The leg space is horrible in a way that if you must go for a long ride during the journey, you will just get tired after being motionless. Not only this but the car has a very small space in its back compartment if the CNG tank is installed then you would have zero space for your extras.

The driving feel is just average as said above, seats are not very comfortable. The driving handle continuously vibrates on engine startup and shifting gears is also not so good. Since the car is old and it has a manual transmission its gears and gear shifting cause squeezy sounds from crankshafts.

In conclusion, the Suzuki Mehran has been the most used car in Pakistan but now its days are ending on the road. New cars from different manufacturers have been launched with advanced features, sensor parking efficient engines, and greater spacing with attractive pricing tags due to which the Mehran has lost its ground. Suzuki has never brought any new features or big changes to improve the Mehran car in its approx. 40 years-long journey.

Last 2019 Model Limited Edition was launched in the market with a price range of 11.5 Lacs (Approx 7000 USD). Currently, it is discontinued!

People still sell and buy the Suzuki Mehran at several online marketplaces, some of them including OLX and PaksWheels.com.
